We’ve been talking about how to clean your appliances and take good care of them so that they last you a long time and so that they’re energy efficient.
This week, we’re focusing on the microwave. And you know that there had been times you’ve opened your microwave and there has been so much grime inside of it that’s really been gross and you didn’t even want to use it, right? Remember that?
So, here’s a quick and easy way to clean your microwave and at the end of this video, I’m going to give you a quick little hack that you can use to keep it clean. So first of all, take a microwave-safe bowl, fill it with water, add some dawn liquid and stick it in your microwave and heat it for one minute.
If you have a standard 1200-watt microwave, that’s about all it would take. If you have a smaller 700-watt microwave, it might take two minutes. Here’s the key: Make sure you leave the bowl in the microwave for two minutes, don’t open the door. Let the steam from the heated water do the work. Once you take the bowl out of the microwave, now be careful, you may have to use some pot holders. Then everything inside the microwave should be soft and easy to remove.
So just use a sponge with a scrubby side and some more dawn liquid, get that microwave sparkling clean and then wipe it down with a soft towel or paper towel. Now, and you may need to repeat the cycle twice if you have an extremely dirty microwave. Then once you have it clean, look around your kitchen for a plastic bowl. One that you can turn upside down on top of the plate inside the microwave that goes around and around. If you find one that’s about the right size, you can use that as a cap on the food the you microwave, so then you’re going to want to work with your family to let them know that when they use the microwave, they should put the plate or the cup in the microwave and then cover it with the plastic bowl. And let them know if they heat up a plate, they also have to clean the bowl afterward.
The cool thing about the bowl is that you can just take it out of the microwave and pop it in the dishwasher. It’s so much easier to clean the bowl than it is to clean the inside of the microwave.
